With a name like Tacos & Tequila, the lively restaurant inside Luxor not surprisingly boasts an extensive menu of taco and tequila selections. The popular Mexican eatery also serves some of the best tequila cocktails in town. One of Taco & Tequila’s talented bartenders, Cynthia Murray, shared some of her top tequila cocktails and how to recreate them at home just in time for any Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

With more than 15 years of bartending experience, Murray has an extensive resume that includes working at the W hotel in New Jersey, the Gansevoort hotel in New York City and the former Rum Jungle inside Mandalay Bay. While working in Las Vegas at the Bellagio, Murray was featured in Vogue, which highlighted a Cointreau martini she created. Specializing in creative cocktails, Murray said she is passionate about the drinks she makes and takes pride in her work. She can currently be found crafting cocktails at Tacos & Tequila, like her signature tequila-infused cocktail, the Thyme for Fig Margarita priced at $12. This cocktail is sweet and has a slight citrus kick to it.

Thyme For Fig Margarita

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz. of Don Julio Reposado
  • 3/4 oz. of Tuaca liqueur
  • 3/4 oz. of thyme simple syrup
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Agave nectar
  • 1 heaping teaspoon of fig preserve

To make, shake the above ingredients. Kiss a glass with Bittercube orange bitters. Optional: rim the glass with smoked sea salt. Pour into glass and enjoy.

In addition to the Thyme for Fig Margarita, Murray shared three other specialty cocktail recipes from Tacos & Tequila that guests can make at home. These include slightly sweet Jabbarita, the refreshing Paloma and Watermelon Cooler.

Jabbarita

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz. of el Jimador Blanco
  • 0.5 oz. of Tuaca liqueur
  • 0.5 oz. of Monin hibiscus syrup
  • 2 oz. of T&T margarita mix

To make, mix the above ingredients. Serve in a highball glass on the rocks and garnish with a hibiscus flower.

Paloma

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz. of Tequila Cazadores Reposado
  • 0.5 oz. of fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 1 bottle of Jarritos Toronja Mexican grapefruit soda

This fun drink is served deconstructed at Tacos & Tequila, with the tequila in a shot glass and the bottle of Jarritos on the side. The guest then “builds” the drink at their table, pouring the ingredients into a chilled cocktail glass with rocks, a salted rim and lime wheel garnish.

Watermelon Cooler

Ingredients:

  • 4 watermelon cubes (muddle)
  • 0.5 oz. of Aperol
  • 0.5 oz. of watermelon liqueur
  • 1.5 oz. of Patrón Reposado
  • 1.5 oz. of T&T margarita mix

To make, shake the above ingredients together and strain. Garnish with a watermelon square and berries.

The Paloma pairs well with the grilled shrimp or fish tacos and the Watermelon Cooler goes great with the chicken enchiladas divorciadas. The enchiladas come with shredded chicken, roasted tomato-guajillo sauce and tomatillo cream sauce. The drink also pairs well with the Mexican cobb salad.
