(Las Vegas, NV) — Next year’s high school freshmen and sophomores will still get a diploma, even if they fail the new state-wide exams.

The Nevada Board of Education has exempted those students as Nevada phases in a new proficiency exam.

They will still have to get a passing grade in math, English and reading to graduate.

Starting in 2019, all students will have to pass the new exams before they get their caps and gowns.
