Bargain hunting is almost an affliction for some. But why pay more than necessary? Full retail pricing is justifiable when an item is in limited supply or you know it will be gone at the beginning of a season — say, for instance, that timeless Emporio Armani suit with a hint of coolness that you can wear for 10 years, but won’t ever see again, or those Manolo Blahnik size 6.5 cocktail pumps with the little sapphire gem on the toe. But it pays to keep your eyes open. Fine clothing, accessories and housewares are long-term investments these days. Let’s start saving some money. Here are some of the best bargain hunting finds in Las Vegas. – Marco Medrano

Designer Fashion Clearance

Las Vegas Outlet Center Annex
7680 South Las Vegas Boulevard, Suite 207
Las Vegas, NV 89123
(702) 699-9964
www.designerfashionclearance.com

Designer Fashion Clearance has one of the most unique selections of couture-quality shoe racks in the area. It is better for women than men when it comes to selection, but the store does have all kinds of incentives and special days to shop (including unobtrusive e-mail blasts), on top of deep discounts already. Ask for the business card that gives you an instant 25 percent off. Many of Las Vegas’ exclusive retailers like Wynn, Caesars’ Forum Shoppes and Bellagio are forced to stock only the most recent items; the ones that are considered old by mid-season are sent to Designer Fashion Clearance. Lucky you. Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Saks Off 5th

7680 Las Vegas Boulevard South, No. 205
Las Vegas, NV 89123
(702) 263-7692
www.off5th.com

First off, become a Saks More! Member and stay abreast on the in-the-know specials and extra-off promotions. Saks Fifth Avenue’s company philosophy of quality items and service carries over to the Off 5th outlet — its only outlet in Nevada. This is a nice place that is well laid out and good for gift shopping, too, for that “brand-in-a-fancy-box” person on your list. Hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Fashion Outlets of Las Vegas

32100 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Primm, NV 89019
(702) 874-1400
(888) 424-6898

There are a handful of outlet-type stores in Las Vegas, but you almost need to leave the city limits to get the best deals. This one is located off I-15 at Exit 1 in Primm, Nev., so plan on a 25-minute ride. Or visit the Web site for complimentary shuttle schedule. With stores like Neiman Marcus Last Call, Ralph Lauren Factory Store, Levi’s, Coach and Juicy Couture, you are sure to find some staples, including skincare, sunglasses — you name it. For certain things that don’t go out of style quickly, this is a great place to buy summer clothes and accessories while on clearance in winter, or vice versa. It is also terrific for babies and youth that are growing quickly. Cafe Koraku has great, reasonably priced Japanese food, so you can have a civilized lunch. Fashion Outlet hours: open daily 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; open most holidays until 6 p.m. (call or check Web site for updated schedule verification).

Zappos.com

(800) 927-7671 (24 hours a day)
Online Sales (24 hours a day)
www.zappos.com

Zappos no longer has a brick-and-mortar store in Las Vegas, but the city is its corporate headquarters. With a 24/7 schedule to match Las Vegas’, Zappos is perfect. If you’re in a pinch and just barely getting packed for your trip, it is likely that you haven’t been to the mall to get that perfect pair of disco diva heels and matching clutch. With 24/7 customer service and online tracking, you could have these last-minute punch list items delivered to your hotel. If it doesn’t work out, have the business center send it back. Now, isn’t that easy?
