LAS VEGAS (AP) — A politically connected Las Vegas-based public relations firm says it’s been subpoenaed in an FBI investigation into a city councilman’s campaign contributions.
Attorney Chris Rasmussen told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the Ramirez Group received a records request and was fully cooperating. The investigation involves Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow, whose campaign records show he paid the firm $70,000 in consulting fees last year.
Ramirez Group is run by Jacki Ramirez and her husband Andres Ramirez, who’s one of Nevada’s eight Democratic superdelegates. Ramirez Group said Wednesday on Facebook that the firm isn’t the focus of the investigation.
Ramirez Group also employs Democratic state Sen. Ruben Kihuen, who’s running for Congress. Kihuen’s spokesman said the candidate has been on leave while campaigning and during last spring’s legislative session.
