GEORGE NOORY IN LAS VEGAS: Get tickets now -- be there June 9!

LAS VEGAS (KXNT, AP) — A suspicious package that prompted a partial evacuation of the Stratosphere casino was actually a backpack containing medical devices and was deemed safe, according to authorities.

At least part of the Stratosphere casino was evacuated as authorities began investigating the suspicious package just before 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Some of the roads in the immediate area were closed, including part of Las Vegas Boulevard that runs alongside the casino.

Nevada’s chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense task force were called out to aid the investigate.

Around 3:30 p.m., police said investigators finally determined the device was a backpack left by a hotel guest in a common area. Mechanical items emitting strange sounds inside the backpack further elevated the need for caution in handling the suspicious package.

The area was reopened shortly after 3:30.
