LAS VEGAS (AP) — County commissioners who must fill vacancies in the Legislature as a stadium plan hangs in the balance are postponing that task amid concerns that they’d violate the Nevada Open Meeting Law.
Washoe County Commission Chair Kitty Jung said a special Thursday meeting would be postponed until Sept. 27. Clark County commissioners canceled a meeting scheduled for Wednesday but haven’t yet set a new date.
Together, the two commissions are expected to name replacements to three Assembly and two Senate seats. Gov. Brian Sandoval is reviewing a committee’s recommendation that Las Vegas-area hotel tax be raised to help fund an NFL stadium. He could call a special legislative session in coming weeks.
But the Reno Gazette-Journal raised transparency concerns, saying the names of potential appointees were not published on meeting agendas.
