LAS VEGAS (AP) — Public meetings have been scheduled in coming days in and around Las Vegas about plans for the breakup of the sprawling Clark County School District.
District officials and members of a state Legislature advisory committee are scheduled to describe the reorganization of the nation’s fifth-largest school district. Most meetings begin at 6 p.m.
The first meeting is Thursday at the Henderson Convention Center on Water St.
Others are Aug. 1 at Silver Mesa Recreation Center in North Las Vegas; Aug. 2 at Sierra Vista High School in southwest Las Vegas; Aug. 3 at Northwest Career & Technical Academy; and Aug. 4 at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Logandale.
Meetings the following week will be Aug. 8 at Desert Breeze Community Center; Aug. 9 at the Clark County Government Center; and Aug. 10 at Winchester Cultural Center.
Supporters say reorganization will improve local control of schools, although opponents say it could negatively affect minority neighborhoods.
