LAS VEGAS (AP) — Prominent Nevada Democrats have mixed reactions after Hillary Clinton announced that Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine will be her running mate.
Democratic State Sen. Tick Segerblom had backed Bernie Sanders but was enthusiastic about the news announced via text message on Friday. He called Kaine’s history “fantastic” and said it was a miracle that he could be a progressive in a Southern state.
Sanders supporter Angie Morelli called Kaine “a horrible pick” and said it showed Clinton wanted to reach more conservative voters rather than bring more Sanders supporters into the fold.
Clinton backer and state Sen. Aaron Ford said Kaine was highly qualified and showed deliberate effort to reach out to people of other cultures by learning Spanish.
