Brit Indicted in Botched Attempt to Shoot Trump in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 20-year-old British citizen accused of trying to grab a police officer’s gun to shoot presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at campaign rally in Las Vegas has been indicted on federal charges.

U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said a grand jury on Wednesday charged Michael Steven Sandford with disrupting an official function and two firearms counts that, together, could get Sandford up to 30 years in prison.

Sandford’s arraignment was scheduled July 6 in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas. He remains in federal custody.

His lawyer didn’t immediately respond Wednesday to a message for comment.

Federal agents say Sandford told them he drove from California to kill Trump, and he went to a Las Vegas gun range to learn to shoot the day before Trump appeared June 18 at the Treasure Island hotel-casino.
