Police release surveillance video from southwest valley liquor store

LAS VEGAS (KXNT) – As Metro Police released surveillance video of three suspects in Monday night’s robbery and fatal shooting of a liquor store clerk, friends and family gathered at the store to remember the 24-year-old who died.

The video shows three men rushing into the Lee’s Liquor store at Warm Springs and Durango around 9:30 p.m. Monday, two of them brandishing guns while the third stood by.

Matthew Christensen, who died later at the hospital Monday night, is not shown in the video that was released.

Police initially also sought a woman seen on the video in the minutes before the robbery. She calmly enters the store, and just as calmly leaves while the robbery is in progress.  But by Wednesday morning, Las Vegas Police officials confirmed that woman contacted homicide investigators within an hour of the video’s release and after being interviewed, was determined to be only a witness in the case.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson spoke to the media at a gathering outside the store Tuesday afternoon, promising quick action on the case.

Later Tuesday a candlelight vigil was held there, with the victim’s girlfriend, Yvette Rioux, telling KTNV-TV, “His mother said, ‘Take care of him for me.’ I wasn’t there to protect him.”

Anyone who recognizes anyone in the video is asked to call police.
