( Las Vegas, NV ) – Metro Police were involved in a shooting in the central valley early Tuesday morning.
It happened near the Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway and Katie around 2am.
Police say no officers were injured in the incident.
Captain Matt McCarthy says officers ran a check on a car they pulled over and that the car didn’t match the information from the license plate. McCarthy says officers did not pursue the suspect, but that a short time later that suspect was spotted on the grounds of a nearby apartment complex where security tried to escort him from the property.
McCarthy says arriving officers attempted to subdue the suspect with a taser but that it appeared to have no affect. He says the suspect kept backing away from officers with his hands behind his back before drawing a weapon. According to McCarthy, three officers fired their service weapon at the suspect who later died at the hospital.
The suspect’s name will be released by the County Coroner’s office.
The officers involved in the incident have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.
McCarthy says police will have a more formal briefing in the next few days.
