PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) — A pit bull attack in Pahrump injured three men, one of them critically, and sent the dogs’ owner to jail.
A man was outside feeding a neighbor’s cats late Friday when three pit bulls from another home on the property jumped a 6-foot fence and attacked him, Nye County sheriff’s deputies said.
The man’s screams prompted two other men to rush to his defense and they were seriously injured when the dogs also attacked them.
One of the men got a gun and shot two of the dogs, deputies said, but the attack didn’t end until an ambulance scared the animals away.
The initial victim was taken to a Las Vegas hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Saturday. The other two men were taken to another hospital for treatment of their injuries. Their names weren’t immediately released.
The animals’ owner, Ricky Davidson, 40, was booked into the county jail for investigation of being an owner who kept vicious dogs resulting in substantial bodily harm.
One of the dogs was euthanized after being shot through its lungs, while the other two dogs will be quarantined by the county pending the outcome of testing and an investigation.
Investigators say Davidson’s dogs also were involved in an attack of a man about eight months ago.
