( Las Vegas, NV ) – Las Vegas Ward 1 City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian has announced her intention to run for another term in the June election.
She says she wants to stay on the Council to help see the proposed UNLV Medical School through to fruition. If the project moves forward, it would be built in her Ward near the University Medical campus where the Southern Nevada Health District was once headquartered.
A statement quotes Tarkanian as saying, “We are the largest city in the United States without a public medical school. Such a school would bring hundreds of jobs to the area and, according to professional research, eventually produce over one billion dollars of economic growth.
Tarkanian is married to Hall Of Fame former UNLV basketball Coach Jerry Tarkanian and is the mother of Danny Tarkanian who has unsuccessfully run for various political offices.
The deadline for candidates to files is February 5th.
