California Cop Facing Prostitution Charge
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 48-year-old police sergeant from Glendale, California, is facing a misdemeanor prostitution charge in Nevada after his arrest in a prostitution sting at a Las Vegas Strip hotel-casino.
Las Vegas police say Vahak Mardikian (vah-HOK’ mar-DEEK’-ee-in) was arrested after 2 a.m. Aug. 8 at the Flamingo after agreeing to pay an undercover officer $250 for sex.
Mardikian asked the undercover officer if she was a police officer, and she said no.
Records show Mardikian is free on $1,000 bail pending an Oct. 22 appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court.
An aide to Glendale police Chief Robert Castro referred questions to city spokesman Tom Lorenz.
Lorenz said Wednesday that Mardikian remains on the city payroll, but wouldn’t describe Mardikian’s job status.
