Reid: No Help For Democrat Running For Gov.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he won’t waste his time raising money for the doomed campaign of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bob Goodman in a bid to unseat Nevada’s popular Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval.
Goodman won the nomination in a field of eight candidates in the June primary. But he garnered only 25 percent of the vote, compared to 30 percent for “none of these candidates.”
Reid told reporters in Reno Monday he tried but failed to persuade better-known Democrats to take on Sandoval.
He said he welcomes a challenge from Sandoval should he decide to run against him in 2016. But he said Sandoval’s current high level of support is due in part to an improving economy, and warned that governors who leave office mid-term often don’t do well in their next election.
