(Las Vegas, NV) — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police will no longer detain people with immigration holds.

The department says recent court decisions have raised constitutional questions about detaining people based solely on a federal request.

Sheriff Doug Gillespie says the move has, “nothing to do with me taking a stand on the immigration issue”.

Police will still detain someone if there’s probable cause or a warrant from a judicial officer.
