(Las Vegas, KXNT)-The post office on Pebble Blvd. is undergoing some cleanup after a fire on Sunday afternoon.
Clark County firefighters responded to calls of heavy black smoke coming from the roof of the building. Once they arrived on scene, they found a portable toilet on fire. Investigators says the port-a-potty had been placed on the roof by construction workers.
“They had apparently moved the port-a-potty up there for efficiency purposes…so they wouldn’t have to keep going up and down from the roof,” explained Deputy Chief Erik Newman.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the blaze, but Newwan says they are looking at a number of options including weather and fireworks.
Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof to battle the blaze, allowing debris and human waste to seep inside. USPS Spokesperson David Rupert says they are in the process of cleaning up the mess.
” It did come through where the customer access is, so the front of the building, the lobby, the post office boxes,” said Rupert.
Rupert adds that no mail was damaged.
While crews clean up, the USPS has set up a mobile office in the parking lot where customers can buy stamps and drop off packages. Today and future mail can also be picked up. However, customers with P.O. Boxes at this facility will not have access to the building. At this time, there is no word on when the building will re-open.
