Boy Scout Dies From Gunshot Wound
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Police say a 12-year-old boy at a Boy Scout camp in San Diego has died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Officer Matt Tortorella told The Associated Press that shortly after 7:30 a.m. Monday, police received a report that a boy had shot himself in the head at the camp on Fiesta Island.
Police are investigating whether the shooting was self-inflicted or accidental.
Tortorella says officers found a gun in the boy’s tent. It’s not clear yet where the gun came from or how it got into the camp.
Boy Scouts of America called it an “extremely sad day” and said counselors were at the camp. Spokesman Deron Smith says the organization does not allow firearms at its events.
