( Las Vegas, NV ) – Two young children were found dead in a house fire in the northwest valley early Thursday morning.
The fire near Tropical Parkway and Durango was first reported around 1 a.m. Deputy Chief Jon Klassen of the Clark County Fire Department says the children’s parents first tried to get the little boy and girl out of the bedroom with no success. They then grabbed a water hose outside and began frantically spraying the exterior of the house in an attempt to put out the flames.
Metro police officers initially arrived on scene and ran into the home but the untenable conditions forced them out. Firefighters from Las Vegas Fire and Rescue arrived shortly after and were able to pull the children out through a window. However, the children were pronounced dead on the scene.
Neighbor Heather Jansen was reading when she heard screams.
“It was probably right before 1 a.m. I just heard yelling and screaming. I thought it was a party, but when I walked outside I saw the fire trucks and smelled the smoke. It’s just so sad. I used to see the little ones in their driveway riding their tricycles while their parents watched them,” explained Jansen.
The adult female and male were taken to UMC. Their condition is unknown. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
