LAS VEGAS (KXNT/AP) — A judge set bail at $1 million for a 31-year-old Las Vegas mother of three accused of shooting her 11-year-old son in what she told police she planned as a murder-suicide.
A defiant Shavon Jacklein Carrillo flipped an obscene hand gesture at media attending her first appearance Thursday in Las Vegas Justice Court on attempted murder and child abuse charges.
Carrillo also uses the name Shavon Aguilar.
She complained to the judge that she didn’t like being held in segregation at the Clark County jail.
Police say her brother-in-law grabbed the .22-caliber rifle after Carrillo shot her son early Monday at a Las Vegas apartment.
Prosecutor Robert Daskas says the boy remains in critical condition and isn’t expected to improve.
