(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Nevada Senator Harry Reid was joined by a group of local business and civic leaders in Las Vegas in calling for passage of comprehensive immigration reform, saying it would strenghen Nevada’s economy and create jobs.
The prospects for immigration reform passage in Congress this year are still considered dim.
Reid warned that if Republican leadership does not permit the immigration measure to come up for a vote, President Obama may take unilateral administrative actions to make it happen.
Reid also said that if House Speaker John Boehner permitted the measure to come up for a vote, it would pass. He cited polls indicating 70% of Americans favor comprehensive immigration reform.
Reid was joined by officials from the Metro Chamber of Commerce, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, the Asian Chamber of Commerce and tourism officials including Rosemary Vassiladis, Director of Aviation for Clark County in touting reform.
The press event was held at the Las Vegas Chamber headquarters.
