(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Metro Police say they have apprehended and arrested 43 year old Steven Woodard, an escaped mental patient who is suspected of killing his grandfather Tuesday morning.

Police say patrol officers were searching an area where they believed Woodard might be early Wednesday morning and located him sleeping behind a vacant home near East Charleston and Chapman Drive.

Woodard was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Clark County Detention Center where he faces one count of open murder and two counts of attempt murder.

The body of an elderly man was found in his home on Florence Avenue Tuesday morning. The coroner’s office has since identified the victim as 91 year old Richard Donald Hill, the grandfather of Woodard. Woodard is also suspected of attempting to harm his father and the father’s roommate at another home.
