Court: Man Tells Wife He Had Right To Kill Her Because Of His ‘Islamic Belief’
AVONDALE, Ariz. (CBS Las Vegas) — An Arizona man is accused of telling his wife that he has the right to kill her because of his “Islamic belief.”
KPHO-TV reports that Ansar Muhammad, 43, was arrested Saturday after authorities say he punched his wife and tried to strangle her inside his car.
Muhammad “used his hands during the assault to strangulate and impede the breathing of the victim,” a court document obtained by KPHO stated.
Police say the incident began after Muhammad accused his wife of having an affair. He reportedly punched his wife multiple times in the neck, face, back, legs and chest behind a Walgreens in Avondale. He then reportedly told his wife that he was allowed to kill her because of his “Islamic belief.”
KPHO also reports that Muhammad threatened to throw her in a lake near their home because she doesn’t know how to swim and that he sexually assaulted her inside their home.
Muhammad’s wife was able to call police after he fell asleep.
He is currently being held at the Maricopa County Jail on charges of unlawful imprisonment, aggravated assault and sexual assault.
