(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–A California man has been apprehended in Las Vegas and faces federal charges of transporting a sixteen year old girl to engage as a prostitute.

Laron Carter, 36, of Gardena, California was apprehended in a case involving a teen from Minnesota who went to Los Angeles.

A criminal complaint states Carter arranged to transport the girl from Minneapolis to Los Angeles. The girl escaped from Carter after he had told her she would be working as a prostitute and posted photos of her on the internet.

Authorities say the girl returned to Carter because she had no money, and was beaten and forced into prostitution.

The complaint notes that Carter had been convicted in Las Vegas of pandering in 2013 in a case involving a 13-year old girl. He was released from prison on parole in early December.

A Homeland Security and ICE release states that authorities believe Carter may have additional unidentified underage victims in Las Vegas, Phoenix and Southern California.

Anyone with information about this matter is encouraged to call HSI’s toll-free tip line at 1-866-DHS-2ICE (1-866-347-2423) or submit information using HSI’s online tip form at http://www.ice.gov/exec/forms/hsi-tips/tips.asp.

The case is being worked by HSI special agents in Los Angeles and Las Vegas based upon the initial lead provided by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. HSI has received assistance with the investigation from the Minneapolis and Phoenix police departments.
