PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities say a 10-year-old girl is presumed to have drowned at a lake northeast of Phoenix.
Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say three girls under the age of 15 were in Saguaro Lake near Butcher Jones Beach when a passer-by noticed them in distress.
MCSO spokeswoman Lisa Allen says the passer-by pulled out two of the girls but the 10-year-old did not make it out.
Allen says the other girls appeared uninjured.
Authorities say the children were part of a Phoenix family spending Easter Sunday at the lake.
Allen says a Sheriff’s helicopter flew overhead and did not see a sign of the girl.
She says divers will search the lake up until sunset.
Investigators are trying to determine what led the incident.
