(LAS VEGAS, KXNT, A.P.)–Metro Police have publicly identified the officer who shot and wounded a knife-wielding suspect on a city street following a domestic disturbance last Friday night.
29 year old Esmeralda Boveda has been placed on paid administrative leave pending further investigation of the incident. Boveda is a Sergeant and has been with Metro since January 2003.
Police say a 49 year old woman, 49-year-old Tania Torres-Espinoza, was reported to have been involved in a domestic disturbance with a man at an apartment complex on East Tropicana and Celo Lane and had two knives.
The officer spotted the woman in the street as she approached in her patrol car, stopped the car and began to approach Torres-Espinoza. Police say the woman raised a knife and thats when the officer fired twice.l. She faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon and resisting a public officer with a weapon.
Torres-Espinoza was taken to Sunrise Hospital and faces numerous charges including assault with a deadly weapon and resisting a public officer with a weapon.
