(Las Vegas, NV)  — The University of Nevada, Las Vegas has a new acting president.

The state Board of Regents voted Friday to appoint retired Boyd Gaming Corp. president and academic officer Don Snyder for the post. Snyder has also been leading a project to bring a new stadium to campus.

Former president Neal Smatresk left to take the top job at the University of North Texas.

The acting president will serve for a short period of time while a national search for a permanent replacement is conducted. Acting presidents are not eligible for the permanent post.
