Ex-Con Sought In Killings Shoots Himself After Car Chase Ends In Crash
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — An ex-convict wanted in two killings in Phoenix fatally shot himself in Tucson after stealing a car at gunpoint and then leading police in a pursuit that ended in a crash.
U.S. Marshals were conducting surveillance on 24-year-old Hector Karaca on Thursday when he went to a mall and stole a car at gunpoint.
Police Sgt. Chris Widmer says Karaca drove off, causing several car accidents before he crashed the stolen car, went into an alley and shot himself in the head.
A police helicopter had followed the stolen vehicle and guided police vehicles.
Karaca was sought in the Oct. 21 killings of 25-year-old Jose Alonso Villa and 17-year-old Kristen Bianca Furgeri.
He was released from prison in September after serving time for auto theft convictions in Pima County.
