Goldfield Man Gets Prison In Guns Case
(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–A Nevada man is going to prison for two years because he was a felon and was not allowed to own firearms.
67 year old Michael Rippie of Goldfield had 15 guns and 22 thousand rounds of ammuntion when he was arrested earlier this year. Because he had been declared not guilty by reason of insanity in a Colorado holdup case more than 30 years ago, by law he was not permitted to own weapons. Nonetheless, prosecutors say he had been arrested more than a dozen times here in Nevada dating back more than 40 years, and that firearms were involved in six of those cases.
He was convicted earlier this year of improperly possessing and attempting to purchase firearms. He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gloria M. Navarro. In addition to the two year prison term, Rippie was ordered to three years of supervised release. He was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorneys office in Las Vegas
