LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada jury is deliberating whether a Saudi Arabian air force sergeant is guilty of raping a 13-year-old boy at a Las Vegas Strip hotel last New Year’s Eve.
A defense attorney for Mazen Alotaibi urged jurors Tuesday to dismiss the boy’s story as unreliable, and to find his client not guilty.
Attorney Don Chairez says the boy wanted marijuana or money from Alotaibi, and Alotaibi was too drunk after several hours at a strip club to know if he was doing anything wrong.
Prosecutor Jacqueline Bluth said the 24-year-old Alotaibi wasn’t too drunk to want sex, and he wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Alotaibi didn’t testify in his trial on felony charges including kidnapping, sexual assault and lewdness.
He could face life in prison if he’s convicted.
