(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Shortly after police found Sheldon Wesley dying on an apartment floor, the phone rang. It was his girlfriend, Lisa Davis, asking how Wesley was doing.

Police found the prostitute hiding in an air conditioning unit at another residence in the same complex. Davis told police she stabbed Wesley in self defense, the culmination of a stormy relationship that included crack cocaine, pimping and prostitution.

Davis told police she had recently left Wesley, and he had been looking for her. When she arrived at a residence on Allure Avenue Saturday night, Wesley found her, threatened to beat her, and she grabbed several kitchen knives for protection.

The two fought, says Davis, and she raised a knife to protect herself and stabbed Wesley as he lunged at her.

Wesley was later pronounced dead.

In a statement to police, Davis, 43, said she had been a prostitute since coming to Las Vegas in 1996 and was addicted to crack cocaine. She says she met Wesley about six years ago; he was selling the drug on Fremont Street.

He had acted as her pimp, she told police, but often beat her when she worked as a prostitute.

Davis told police that as she fled the apartment Saturday night  after the stabbing, she apologized to Wesley.
