(Las Vegas, NV) — About 20,000 unemployed Nevadans will face benefit cuts next month.

Officials say there will be a 50 percent reduction in the federal emergency unemployment compensation program, which provides extended benefits to long-term jobless.

Those getting regular unemployment benefits are not affected.

Nevada’s jobless rate is 9.6 percent, the highest in the nation.
