(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Residents of canyons evacuated earlier this month in the Carpenter 1 wildfire have begun returning to their properties in recent days.

On Wednesday, Kyle Canyon residents were given the OK to return.

KXNT traffic reporter Karen Fedel, a newer resident of the canyon, returned to her place Wednesday and found everything remarkably in tact, without even a trace of of the smokey smell that her permeated the canyons since the fire, sparked by lightning July 1st, destroyed 44 square miles of forest land along Spring Mountain and the Mt. Charleston area. The fire is an estimated 85% contained.

Here are some of the photos Karen snapped as she journeyed toward her home.
