LAS VEGAS (AP) — U.S. Sen. Rand Paul told a Las Vegas crowd that government powers need to be reined in.
The Kentucky Republican also called for a renewed focus on the Bill of Rights in a speech Saturday at a $30-a-head fundraiser for the Nevada Republican Party.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports about 200 people attended.
Paul, a potential presidential candidate in 2016, also told the GOP faithful that the party needs to look beyond its traditional base and connect with diverse races and ethnic groups, including Hispanics, Arabs and Asian-Americans.
Before the speech, he posed with donors for pictures at a $1,000-per-person VIP event.
Paul, the son of former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, told reporters afterward that he has areas of disagreement with his father, but didn’t go into specifics.
