LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Southern Nevada Health District is reporting its first cases of West Nile-positive mosquitoes so far this year, although no human cases of the illness have turned up in Clark County.

Officials say Tuesday that the infected mosquitoes were in the 89104 ZIP code, but it’s likely that more carrying the disease are in other parts of the Las Vegas valley.

Health officials counted eight people infected with West Nile in Clark County in 2012, including one who died.

The year before, Nevada had 16 cases, including 11 in Clark County.

Authorities warn residents to wear bug repellents and get rid of standing water sources that can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
