Police: Arsonist Turned To Burglary
(LAS VEGAS, KXNT)–Police say a man who started an apartment building fire this month that left a hundred people homeless burglarized a Walmart store two days later.
Stephen Tyson is charged with arson and attempted murder in a June 16th fire at an apartment complex near Eastern and Bonanza that caused $350,000. He had been staying at the apartment with two friends, but was asked to leave because, according to the police report, he had been putting his feet on the prized sofa of the friend.
Police say it was shortly after Tyson was told to be out of the apartment by the next morning that there was smoke and fire in the apartment. His two friends were slightly burned and suffered smoke inhalation. A hundred other occupants of the complex were rousted as 85 firefighters arrived at the scene.
Two days later, say police, Tyson was observed late in the evening trying to leave a Walmart store through an emergency exit with over $350 in electronics gear in a shopping cart.
He is also now charged with burglary.
