SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 27-year-old man has been convicted of murder in the stabbing death of a man who had been kicked out of a Salt Lake City party.

A 3rd District Court jury deliberated less than two hours before reaching the verdict Friday against Adam Karr in the July 2012 death of 22-year-old Kaleb Yazzie of Midvale.

Authorities say Yazzie went to a party at a home shared by Karr and his brother and was told to leave. A fight ensued when he returned to get his liquor, and prosecutors allege that Karr stabbed Yazzie several times with his knife.

Karr, who awaits sentencing Aug. 5, maintains he acted in self-defense.

In November, Karr’s 21-year-old brother, Ammon, pleaded guilty to obstructing justice, while a 17-year-old teen pleaded guilty to manslaughter for their roles in the case.
