Taxable Sales Up 5% In March

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada taxable sales rose 5 percent in March over the same month last year, signaling improved consumer confidence as the Silver State continues a long climb out of recession.

The Department of Taxation reports Nevada merchants sold $4.1 billion in goods in March, with big gains realized in sales of general merchandise, construction, vehicles and accommodations.

The $320 million in overall taxes collected was up 6.7 percent. The portion that goes to the state general fund totaled $80.5 million, an increase of nearly 7 percent compared with March 2012.

Sales in Clark County rose 6.8 percent, while Washoe County in northern Nevada saw an increase of 7.1 percent.

In all, the report says 12 of Nevada’s 17 counties reported gains in taxable sales in March.
