RENO, Nev. (AP) — Washoe County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of an inmate at the county jail in Reno.
The sheriff’s office says 24-year-old Carlos Salgado was in his cell alone when he was observed to be unresponsive at 4:30 a.m. Monday. Deputies attempted to revive him but he was declared dead about a half hour later.
Salgado had been booked into the jail about 4 p.m. Sunday on a misdemeanor trespassing charge and a felony probation charge stemming from a prior burglary charge.
The county coroner is conducting an autopsy and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death.
