LAS VEGAS (CBS Las Vegas) - Veteran actors Matt Damon and Michael Douglas recently disclosed the details behind filming the more salacious scenes in an upcoming picture about the life and times of Liberace.
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Damon recalled shooting one of the racier scenes.
“The scene where I’m behind him and going at him, we did that in one take,” he told the magazine with a laugh. “We do it. Cut. There’s a long pause. And then you just hear [director] Steven [Soderbergh] go, ‘Well … I have no notes.’”
The movie, set to air on HBO in May of 2013, centers around the relationship between Liberace and his lover Scott Thorson.
The relationship between Thorson and the man whose self-named museum and foundation formerly had a home in Las Vegas was said to have lasted six years – from 1978 to 1982.
Material for the movie reportedly came from a memoir penned by Thorson in the late 1980′s.
In addition to simulated sexual trysts, the actors were additionally required to expose themselves in other ways – especially Damon, who told Entertainment Weekly that he had to don a silver thong for some scenes.
Even preparation for the body-baring outfits was cause for embarrassment.
Damon told the magazine, “Every Sunday night, this girl would come to my house and I would stand in my garage and I would hike my boxer briefs up into the crack of my a** and she would give me a spray tan.”
Despite occasional discomfort, however, the project has been enjoyable – and in the case of Douglas, therapeutic. This is reportedly his first acting job since being diagnosed with cancer in 2010.
“It was great to get back,” he told the magazine. “It gave me a new appreciation for what I do, taking advantage of it.”
