New Mexico Promotes Neal To Replace Alford

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – New Mexico has hired assistant Craig Neal to replace Steve Alford as men’s basketball coach, sources told CBSSports.com.

Alford left for UCLA this past week and the players made it no secret that they wanted Neal, who has been Alford’s right-hand man since he was at Iowa, to get the full-time job.

Neal, 49, played at Georgia Tech. He was with Alford at both Iowa and for the past six seasons with the Lobos.
