LAS VEGAS, NV – The Las Vegas 51s will open the 2013 season on Thursday night in Sacramento. It will mark the first game of the New York Mets era.
The 51s begin a two-year affiliation agreement with the Mets this season, after spending the last four years as the Toronto Blue Jays’ affiliate.
Mets top pitching prospect Zach Wheeler will get the start in the opener for the 51s. His battery mate will be catcher Travis d’Arnaud, who ironically played for the 51’s last season as a member of the Blue Jays organization. He was dealt by Toronto to New York in the R.A. Dickey trade.
The 51s play their home opener at Cashman Field on Friday, April 12th against Colorado Springs.
