(Carson City, NV) — The Senate Transportation Committee has approved a bill that would raise the speed limit on some Nevada highways to 85 miles an hour.

Supporters say higher speeds would reduce accidents, but opponents argue fatalities have gone up in states that have raised their speed limits.

The bill still needs final approval from the Legislature.
