SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A handful of Utah restaurants are filling a lunch-money void for an upcoming Boy Scout conference after Chipotle Mexican Grill pulled its sponsorship of “Scout-O-Rama” due to the organization’s long-standing ban on gays.
The Colorado-based chain pulled its pledge of $4,200 worth of coupons Tuesday.
The Salt Lake tribune reports that (http://bit.ly/11tfIXz)Wingers Roadhouse Grill, Utah Sports Lodge and Madeline’s Steakhouse have stepped forward to fill that void.
Wingers says it values diversity and is also pledging to give a donation to the Utah Pride Center that will match its Scout-O-Rama donation.
Chipotle says company policy bars the chain from supporting organizations that exclude people based on sexual orientation.
The Utah Boy Scouts’ annual event is scheduled for May 4 in a Salt Lake suburb.
