San Jose, CA – 12th-seeded California upset 5th-seeded UNLV, 64-61, handing the Rebels their fourth consecutive opening-round loss in the NCAA Tournament.

Cal’s Allen Crabbe led all scorers with 19 points, to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists, to help the Golden Bears move on to play the 4th-seed Syracuse on Saturday.

The Rebels rallied to within a point in the final seconds before missed free throws and a costly turnover on an inbounds pass sealed the loss.

UNLV (25-10) was led by Bryce Dejean-Jones, who scored 15 points, and Anthony Bennett, who put up a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
