(Washington, DC) — Two Nevada lawmakers are defending a proposed $5.5 billion loan for a high-speed rail linking Las Vegas to Southern California.

Senator Harry Reid says the Xpress West project is “something that we should do.”

Senator Dean Heller says the rail between Las Vegas and Victorville “promises a major shot in the arm” for Southern Nevada’s economy.

Senator Jeff Sessions and Congressman Paul Ryan have urged the Transportation Department to reject the loan, after the libertarian Reason Foundation questioned whether Xpress West could be profitable.
