GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — Douglas County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a 4-year-old boy who was run over by a U-Haul truck his father left running in a residential drive way.

Undersheriff Paul Howell said Monday that Mason Geist of Gardnerville was killed in Sunday’s accident about 3:45 p.m. Sunday in the Spring Valley area south of Gardnerville.

Howell says boy’s father left the engine running and got out of the cab to check clearance around the truck. He told deputies he left the driver-side door open and the boy remained inside of the cab.

But at some point, the vehicle started rolling down the rough driveway embankment and the boy was ejected and run over. He was pronounced dead at Carson Valley Medical Center.

No other information has been released.
