Fugitive Dies After FBI Shootout
LAS VEGAS (AP and Las Vegas CBS KXNT) — An ex-convict fugitive died overnight of wounds he received in a gunfight with a regional criminal apprehension team chasing him through a Las Vegas neighborhood.
FBI Agent Patrick Turner said Wednesday that an FBI agent was shot once in the chest and once in the back during the exchange of gunfire. But he was protected by a ballistic vest.
The agent was treated and released from a hospital overnight.
The fugitive has been identified as Javier Reyes, who was sought on a felony armed robbery warrant. Authorities believe he was also responsible for several carjackings in the Las Vegas area in the last several months.
The shooting happened about 3 p.m. Tuesday in a neighborhood northeast of downtown Las Vegas.
