(Carson City, NV) — NV Energy customers who don’t want a “smart meter” will pay extra.

The utility has proposed a one-time fee of about $53, plus a monthly fee of nearly $9 to cover the cost of the traditional meter and workers to read them.

Some customers say they don’t want the remote meters because of health concerns.

The fees will now be considered by the state Public Utilities Commission.
