(Reno, NV) — Nevada Sen. Dean Heller was one of 12 Republicans to vote in favor of legislation to raise the U.S. debt ceiling now on the way to President Obama’s desk.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was among the 50 Democrats and two independents who helped pass the measure out of the Senate on Thursday on a 64-34 vote. One Democrat and 33 Republicans voted against it.
Obama has said he’ll sign the bill into law. It would permit the government to borrow hundreds of billions of dollars more to meet its obligations, averting a first-ever government default that had loomed as early as mid-February.
The Republican-controlled House earlier approved the plan to temporarily suspend the $16.4 trillion limit on federal borrowing.
